A Royal Mail manager who stole cash from children's birthday cards to fund a lavish lifestyle was jailed for six months yesterday.
David Baker, 47, stole notes and even coins from envelopes which were destined for youngsters - then threw the cards in the bin.
He is believed to have stolen thousands during his 23-year career.
The sorting office manager targeted colourful envelopes he knew would contain money being sent as gifts to children and ripped them open to take cash and gift tokens.
